Cleaning Brass Pins

The first thing I have to say is that I did not discover this - I asked the wonderful worldwide community of lace makers via the Arachne newsgroup.

They are so great that I asked at Midnight and had the answer back withing minutes. You have to love the internet and the generousity of lace makers!

recipe from Joan in Ontario
1 cup boiling water
1 tbsp vinegar
1 teas. dish soap.
I put into a jar add my pins give a little shake & let soak for a few minutes.
Rinse & spread on a paper towel to dry.
It works well.

recipe from Clay
In a heat-proof mug or bowl put
1 TBSP vinegar,
1 TBSP liquid detergent
and about 3/4 cup of boiling water.
Put the pins in the mixture and let sit for about 10 minutes.
Rinse and drain. Let dry in a warm place.

Your pins will sparkle like new!

Although the recipes are basically the same, I have included them both here for your use. before cleaning

The pins before cleaning (top picture) and after cleaning (bottom picture). It is interesting the way the the scanner had trouble defining the pin edge after cleaning - I assume that is because of the amount of reflected light from the nice and clean pins :)
