Crochet Pincushions
I was recently surfing the net looking for something craft wise to do and came across instructions for Crochet Cupcake Pincushions designed by Priscilla Hewitt and a Crochet Donut Pincushion by Nevadamama.
Well I made some of them and it started the brain working. A bit more surfing for ideas found Flickr tagged Pincushions. Literally thousands of pincushion photos.
Photos of felt pincushions made me wonder if I could make some in crochet - here are my efforts. What do you think?
Click on the pictures to get the instructions in PDF format. You will need Acrobat Reader to read this file but you can download that software free from www.adobe.com. They are my own instructions so if they do not make sense please let me know so that I can fix them.
UPDATE
January 2009 I made this one - I did not write the pattern down as I went. It is based on a picture I saw on the net but could not find again.
If you want to have a go at making it - I started with a ch 3, sl st into 1st ch, ch 2, dc rounds with increase to keep it flat until at the edge - then dc without increase for the side. Make base same as top. Join together with green yarn (3 tr in each st around) about 2/3 way round, put circle of hard plastic in base to keep base flat and stuff with fibre filling. Continue with green yarn to finish. Add decorative flowers, leaves etc to taste.
Since then I have been teaching myself a magical Adjustable Ring start and can see I will be using this from now on - gives a neater start with smaller hole. Hmm, wonder if it would work with knitting too?
